As I'm reflecting on this strip from way back I'm reminded that we're presently about a month from both a federal and provincial election. Our country is choosing a new leader, either the same old guy, the new old guy or the new young guy...aside from that I'm not expecting any big changes. I don't think either of them are ready!|
First panel, a history lesson followed by the April Fool's joke. Note the jolly beavers! I could not let the Baby Bonus pass without mention, nor the dig at Toronto's construction (we built that city on Fish and Brewis)! The Rashers and Rounders came from a good friend of mine from Marystown. This was the recipe that his family used...or something like that). Also in panel six, I'm going to take credit for showing that the common man in both Newfoundland & Labrador and Quebec can get along quite well...over a beer. In my opinion 'Newfoundlanders' and 'Quebecers' are the most alike in the country, both definite cultures built around simple living and hard work. Mt. Scio grows and makes summer savory, a flavour that cannot be replicated on the mainland. I know for a fact that this delight is in every cupboard that hosts a Sunday Supper. Those living away find a way to obtain it, like a drug!
