Another strip that is close to my heart...talking about garbage. In the years that have passed since I did this drawing there have been some improvements in the 'trash management' around Newfoundland and Labrador, for instance, recycling has caught on, especially with the new generations. This is good. Also, there's a few upgraded landfill sites that handle trash better than ever. Every household has the ability to recycle and to compost should it be desired.
However, what I have NOT seen improvement around is the problem of Litter. It seems that there's a portion of society out there that just don't give a fuck. They throw their trash around wherever it may fall, not giving 'fiddlers' about the environment, nor about the beauty of this land we live in. This behavior is in my opinion an indication of a deep mental issue. To not have pride in one's own environment nor have respect for others signifies a very low moral bar and a total lack of self esteem.
There is at least one of these arseholes in my neighbourhood. There's a road just up from me that heads up the hill to Outer Cove Road. For years now, someone takes that corner and tosses his/her junk food trash (perhaps the only end to this mess will be his/her death due to garbage...kind of fitting!) out the window of their vehicle. It must happen late at night or early morning as it is always spewed across the road for the morning commute into town.
I have never understood littering...to me, it is evidence of moronic people...complete fucking arseholes.
