Damn straight! It was hot work! We drank a lot of water and took salt tablets to help retain the moisture in our bodies! One of the most dangerous aspects of being on the ground on foot was the combination of heat and uneven terrain. Everythng was smoldering ... or in flames. Smoke was thick, and in some places we wore masks for breathing. One of the things I remember most is how hot my feet got! Really freaking hot...in steel toed boots! And it was true, if you went into the still very volitile stands of burned out trees too quickly, the possibility was there that the breeze would reignite the fire and then you'd be between the fire and escape...there's only so much water in a wajax pack..after that it was back to the ' Mother Truck' for a refill (a process we called 'Mothertrucking'...).
